I am a social scientist with a strong track record in researching the labour market integration of migrant workers. I bring a perspective shaped by my work on Central and Eastern European regimes of migration governance - an area that remains considerably under-researched. While labour market research is often defined by national borders, I focus on bringing forward the impact and role of social formations that transcend national borders, such as various organisational networks, ethnic or occupational-based communities or transnational chains of subcontractors in specific sectors. In the context of digital transformation, precarious, uncertain and hyperflexible employment has particularly severe consequences on migrants’ working life: it threatens the legality of their stay and hinders processes of family reunification and complete integration into society at large. My research aims to contribute to the sustainable and fair labour market participation of migrant workers, which provides benefits both for migrant groups and society at large.

IDILAB (Implications of digital transformation for migrant labour) investigates the impacts that technological progress and subsequent structural changes have on the labour market integration of migrant workers. By developing a new methodological approach, IDILAB shall provide novel evidence on migrants’ exposure to the process of digitalisation, and formulate evidence-based and innovative policy options for the EU and national governments to improve on the scope and adequacy of national and European policy directed at encouraging a fair digital transition for all, including migrants. The proposed project will contribute with new knowledge on migrants’ own perspectives on barriers and enablers for a sustainable integration in a fast-changing labour market.
