About the Call
The proposed academic courses should be relevant for DIGIT’s thematic focus on digitalization, culture and society. We accept both theoretical and methodological courses.
DIGIT also supports workshops. These can be shorter than courses and allow participants to work more actively with their own data. Moreover, workshops with a broader appeal can also be of interest.
To foster greater collaboration between academia and other social actors in research training, we highly recommend the inclusion of at least one partner from the private or public sector in the course program. This could involve one of DIGIT’s formal partners or other relevant actors.
In addition to new courses and workshops, DIGIT offers support for:
Repeating a prior DIGIT course. DIGIT courses are ideally organized every second or third year.
Modifying an existing course, workshop, or event from a partner to
increase its relevance to DIGIT
extend its capacity to include DIGIT participants
When proposing a course or workshop, keep in mind that the Research School for Quality and Relevance scheme aims to:
Develop and apply new methods and theoretical approaches
Foster quality development in the scientific training through national and international collaboration
Increase the doctoral degree programmes’ relevance to the labour market
Financial Support
A lump sum of 60,000 NOK is offered to the unit/department who is planning and hosting the new DIGIT course or workshop.
For recurring courses, the lump sum offered is 45,000 NOK. Make sure to describe any updates or changes to the course in the application.
Support for smaller events are evaluated individually
For adaptations of already existing courses or workshops, we only cover the added costs (i.e., no lump sum).
The lump sum is transferred to the institution/institute/departement hosting the course.
What Else Can Be Covered by Digit?
-
DIGIT covers reasonable travel and accommodation expenses for both national and international guest lecturers and contributors, as well as for participating DIGIT members.
-
We provide lunch throughout the course and one networking dinner for DIGIT members, lecturers, and organizers.
-
Provided if necessary.
-
The DIGIT host administration at OsloMet is available to offer support in the planning and execution phases of the course.. Assistance can include help to promote the course across institutions, managing registrations, and facilitate the processing of travel reimbursements.
What About Study Points?
Should the course not be incorporated in your institution's official study program, DIGIT is able to issue a diploma to the participants where we specify the content of the course and the total workload. Participants can then use this diploma to apply for credit approval at their home University. It is up to the home institution if and how many credits they will attain. To qualify for this diploma, students must complete an evaluation, which may be in the form of a written or oral test.

The Norwegian Research School on Digitalization, Culture, and Society (DIGIT)
The research school aims to provide theoretical frameworks on the role of technology in society, such as science and technology studies (STS), posthumanism, philosophies of science, and politics of technologies. In addition, the Research School will expand capacity on new digital methodologies, including digital ethnography, visual ethnography, digital narratives, and big data analysis.
