This project aspires to unravel the intricacies of how news media connect with the younger demographic in the digital age, delving into the challenges, ethical dilemmas, and promising opportunities that accompany this endeavor, while at the same time being faced with the complexities of the third-party-platform´s guidelines and algorithms. During a three-month period of fieldwork within the editorial team at NRK UNG, Røsok-Dahl observed firsthand the multifaceted strategies employed by journalists to engage young audiences with news, evolving around the daily publication of a news edition on Snapchat. At the heart of this investigation lies the case study from NRK UNG, serving as the cornerstone of the thesis. This study is poised to evolve into a conceptual framework, shedding light on the transformative dynamics of news values when targeting the youth demographic. Heidi Røsok-Dahl employs a theoretical lens that is rooted in practice theory and gatekeeping theory, offering a nuanced perspective to comprehend the intricate interplay between journalistic practices, editorial decisions, and the evolving landscape of news dissemination for the younger audience.
