On October 24 & 25, DIGIT hosted the course “Digitalization and the World of Work”. This course was a collaborative project between partners from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), the Institute for Social Research (ISF), the University of Oslo (UiO) and Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet), and covered a wide range of topics:

🔸 Microwork and the hidden labour behind articifical intelligence (AI)

🔸 AI & discrimination in work contexts

🔸 Automation and who benefits from robots

🔸 Digitalization & frontline work in the public sector (with the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration – NAV)

🔸 Panel discussion on how different disciplines theorize digitalisation in the world of work.

🔸 Methods for investigating digitalization

🔸 Life after a PhD: universities, research institutes, & the public sector as potential employers

We gathered a great group from DIGIT and from the doctoral network from the Digital Futures at Work Research Centre at the University of Sussex.

A big thank you to the lecturers and students who participated. It was inspiring to see our Norwegian and English students facing similar challenges and ideas they could explore together. We look forward to more collaborations in the future!

Special thanks Janis Umblijs (OsloMet) Kari Steen-Johnsen (Institute for Social Research), Ines Wagner (University of Oslo), Helena Seibicke (UiO) and Roger Søraa (NTNU) for organizing! And thanks to Claartje ter Hoeven for traveling all the way from the Netherlands for the keynote lecture!
